Lady Pirates' softball opened their fall season with a double header sweep of Graceland University on Sunday. The first game went to the Pirates 5-2 and the second 7-0. "It's a little scary to play as well as we did this early in the fall. Hopefully this sets the bar high for this team and we only continue to improve from here," remarked Coach Steve Richman following the games.
Pitching and defense were clicking well for the Lady Pirates. "Our pitchers all competed well and I was impressed with that. Everyone knows it takes strong pitching to win and we seem to be solid in that area," added Richman. Depth of the Lady Pirates staff looks to be a strong area for the team.
"Our hitting was solid despite the fact that we've put the majority of our focus in pitching and defense so far in practice," concluded Richman.
The next fall games for the Lady Pirates will be Sunday, September 17th when they travel to Northwest Missouri State University.
