Baseball Starts Season Off Hot, Cools On Day Two

NCMC baseball got their season underway over the weekend down in Branson, MO.  They swept their Saturday games with a 6-2 win over Ellsworth CC and mercy rule victory of 14-1 over Lewis & Clark CC.  Sunday, the Pirates came out on the losing end of 6-5 and 16-4 scores with Ellsworth.  Overall, the Pirates are 2-2 ahead of weekend games in Millington, TN at the Prep Baseball JUCO Invitational Championship.

Sophomore Eduardo Chourio paced the Pirate's offense, going 6-13 over the weekend with 3 HR and 10 RBIs.  He plated 5 runs and stole 2 bases as well.  Also homering for the Pirates were Javier Suarez, Koby Wagers, Cade Fallert, Leonel Dominguez, Luis Rivas and Alejandro Somaza.  As a team, NCMC slugged a robust .632 while scoring 29 total runs.

On the mound, Saturday's winners were sophomores Max Wagers and Luis Leon.  Wagers scattered 5 hits over 4 innings before giving way to freshman Jorge Jimenez who shut the door for the final 3 innings to earn a save.  He allowed 0 hits while striking out 2.  Leon picked up the complete game win, allowing just 1 unearned run while striking out 5.

In NCMC's two losses on Sunday, the pitching staff gave up a total of 30 walks and hit by pitch over 12 innings.  These command issues proved too much for the potent Pirate offense to overcome.
