NCMC baseball dropped 3 of 4 games in the series with 21st ranked Moberly Area CC on Monday and Tuesday. The Pirates now hold a record of 14-18 with their Region 16 mark sitting at 5-3, good for 2nd place halfway through the region schedule. Moberly is now 6-2 in region play while East Central sits at 1-7.
Offense was tough to come by for the Pirates in the opening doubleheader which was played in Chillicothe, MO. The team was able to muster just 3 hits in those games. A pair came from Eduardo Chourio including a solo homer plus Javier Suarez knocked a double. On the mound, brothers Max Wagers and Koby Wagers took the losses despite allowing just 1 and 2 earned runs respectively.
Back at Burleigh Grimes for the second day of games, the NCMC bats came alive. In the opening game win, the Pirates totaled 11 runs on 12 hits. Koby Wagers and Jose Bedoya each posted 3 hits. Bedoya, Leonel Dominguez and Ismael Medina all homered in the win. Medina's shot was the major blow of the contest, a grand slam. Luis Leon picked up the win by twirling 6.2 innings while allowing just 2 earned runs on 4 hits.
In the final game of the series, a pitcher's duel ensued. NCMC scored twice on passed balls in the 3rd inning to tie the score after Moberly hit a 2-run HR off starter Jorge Jimenez in the 2nd inning. Javier Suarez collected all three Pirate hits in the game. Taking the loss on the mound was closer Eduardo Chourio who surrendered an 8th inning run on a Moberly triple with a runner on 1st.
