Coach Esry begins his sixth year with the Men’s Basketball team at NCMC and his third as the Head Coach. As a first year head coach, Esry led the Pirates to a 18-10 overall mark tying for the regular season Region 16 championship.  His second year mark was 17-11 overall.  Year three for Esry has resulted in NCMC's first ever Region XVI title plus a NJCAA District XII championship resulting in a trip to the national tournament.  Additionally, Esry was named the NJCAA Region XVI Coach of the Year for 2018-19.

In three years as an assistant, NCMC also won or tied for the regular season Region XVI championship twice. Esry helped lead the 2014-2015 team to a 22-7 record, the best single season record in school history. That year also saw the Pirates get ranked as high as 10th in the nation. Individually, Esry has helped recruit and develop nineteen 1st Team All-Region selections and two 2nd Team All-Americans with many players moving on to play at 4-year universities.  

Prior to North Central, Esry was a Graduate Assistant at Central Methodist University and began his coaching career at Peru State College as an assistant coach from 2009-2011.  As a player, Coach Esry played his first two years at NCMC and transferred to Central Methodist, helping lead them to a Sweet 16 finish in the NAIA National Tournament.
