Pirates 3rd At Kansas City Cup, Groomer Claims First Individual Title Since 2019

The NCMC Men's Golf team traveled to Smithville, MO, on Monday to compete in the Kansas City Cup hosted by William Jewell College. The event was held on the Outlaw Course at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex.

 

The Pirates battled through 36 holes on Monday, posting a first-round team score of 308. Kaleb Groomer led the way with a 1-under-par 71 that included four birdies. Guillermo and Jorge Gomez each carded rounds of 78, while Dylan Groomer shot a 79.

 

In round two, the Pirates recorded a team score of 313 before the final round was canceled. Kaleb Groomer shot a 74, while Dylan Groomer and Jorge Gomez each posted 75s. At the conclusion of play, Kaleb Groomer earned medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 145, becoming the first Pirate since 2019 to capture an individual tournament title. He edged the field by one stroke to win the Kansas City Cup.

 

Jorge Gomez and Dylan Groomer both secured Top-10 finishes with totals of 153 and 154, respectively. Guillermo Gomez finished at 160, and Alvaro Alegria posted a 162. Grant Leamer and Landon Biermann each recorded a 172, while Lucas Viertaler rounded out the lineup with a 176.

 

The Pirates return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Indianola, IA, for the Simpson College Fall Invitational. Tee times at Indianola Country Club begin at 10:00 a.m.
