The NCMC Men's Golf team traveled to Indianola, IA on Wednesday to compete in the Storm Spring Classic hosted by Simpson College. After an hour and fifteen-minute storm delay, the event was able to conclude when the tournament field had one hole left in the round.
The NCMC Men's (A) team had a great showing finishing T-1st in the team standings with host Simpson College after firing a team score of 296. NCMC lost to Simpson after breaking the tie with a scorecard playoff but finished well in the 12-team tournament field. The NCMC Men's (B) team also had a good tournament finishing in 6th place at the tournament posting a team mark of 312. Both NCMC squads led the tournament field in Par 5 scoring with respective team averages of 5.20 and 5.25.
Dylan Groomer and Lucas Viertaler led the Pirates individually firing twin scores of 73 to finish 4th in the event. Groomer and Viertaler were named to the All-Tournament team, and both earned a medal. Dylan tallied fourteen pars and one birdie at the event finishing with nine-hole splits of 38 and 35. Viertaler had two birdies on the day including twelve pars and had a solid (-2) 34 on his front nine.
Guillermo and Jorge Gomez both earned a Top 10 finishing T7th individually shooting rounds of 74. Guillermo Gomez led the tournament field with birdies made with four on the day, while Jorge Gomez led the field in Pars made with fifteen on Wednesday. Kaleb Groomer finished in 12th place individually shooting a nice round of 75. Groomer played the front nine in Even par 36 and shot a 39 on his back nine to get to his total.
Grant Leamer and Lucas Schussler also played well with scores of 77 and 79 respectively. Leamer finished 26th place individually with nine-hole splits of 39 and 38. Leamer tallied ten pars and one birdie on the day. Schussler finished T31st individually in the 72 player with a front and back nine marks of 37 and 42. Riley Gott had a solid stretch of three birdies in four holes coming around the Indianola Country Club layout with an 18-hole score of 83.
The NCMC Men's golf team will wrap up their regular season next week when they travel to Panora, IA next Tuesday through Thursday to Compete in the Southwestern Community College Premier held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course.
