After A Pair Of Losses To KCKCC, Softball Takes Care Of St. Charles To Stay Undefeated In Region 16 Play

Softball dropped a pair of home games to KCKCC on Monday before rebounding with a home sweep of St. Charles CC on Tuesday to bring their overall record to 8-16.  In Region 16 play, the Pirates are a perfect 4-0 with a matchup against Jefferson College next on the schedule.  That home doubleheader will be on Saturday with a 2:00pm first pitch at Griffin Field.

 

KCKCC 15, NCMC 5

North Central Missouri College battled offensively but ultimately fell 15-5 to Kansas City Kansas Community College in game one Monday.

 

The Pirates showed flashes of power at the plate, highlighted by Alex Endicott, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, accounting for one of NCMC's biggest swings of the game. Kaylor Hodge also delivered a key extra-base hit, finishing 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and drawing two walks to reach base three times.

 

Ireland Bloss continued to be a spark at the top of the lineup, scoring three runs while reaching base three times with a hit and two walks, including a double. Myla Laws added a strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Ella Barnett chipped in a hit and a walk as the Pirates worked nine free passes in the game.

 

Inside the circle, Emma Lisenbee got the start, while Laws provided relief as the Pirates worked through a tough Kansas City Kansas lineup that tallied 20 hits on the day.

 

KCKCC 10, NCMC 1

NCMC dropped a 10-1 decision to KCKCC in game two, as the Pirates were limited to just three hits offensively.

 

Despite the result, NCMC found a bright spot in the performance of Chariss Barnard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and accounted for two of the Pirates' three hits. Ella Barnett also contributed with a base hit, helping NCMC avoid the shutout. Barnard later came around to score the team's lone run.

 

In the circle, Skylar Sunderland got the start, working 3.1 innings while striking out one. Avery Clark provided relief, tossing 2.2 innings and recording two strikeouts against a productive Kansas City Kansas lineup.

 

The Pirates had limited opportunities offensively, but showed discipline in putting the ball in play, finishing with just two strikeouts in the game. Defensively, NCMC turned to its infield to try to slow the opposition, though Kansas City Kansas capitalized on timely extra-base hits to build separation.

 

NCMC 13, St. Charles CC 8

NCMC powered its way to a 13-8 victory over St. Charles Community College behind a balanced offensive effort and timely pitching down the stretch. The Pirates tallied 11 hits and drew seven walks, with multiple players contributing key at-bats throughout the lineup.

 

At the top, Alex Endicott led the way with a 2-for-5 performance, scoring twice and driving in a run. Emma Lisenbee made a major impact both at the plate and in the circle, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs while also pitching four innings. Ireland Bloss delivered one of the biggest swings of the game, launching a home run and finishing with three RBIs, while also earning the win in relief with three strong innings, allowing just one run and striking out three.

 

Kaylor Hodge provided a spark offensively, going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Chariss Barnard added a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored and an RBI, and Myla Laws contributed in key moments with a hit and two RBIs while reaching base three times. Cora Thompson and Ella Barnett each crossed the plate twice, with Thompson also driving in a run and swiping a base.

 

After a back-and-forth start, the Pirates capitalized on scoring opportunities and controlled the game late, with Bloss shutting the door in relief to secure the win and stop the team's 10-game losing streak.

 

NCMC 8, St. Charles 3

Pirates softball put together a strong all-around performance to earn an 8-3 victory over St. Charles Community College in the Tuesday finale.

 

Offensively, NCMC tallied seven hits and made the most of their opportunities, driving in eight runs. Ireland Bloss led the way with a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Alex Endicott and Myla Laws each crossed the plate twice, with Laws also adding an RBI and contributing on the basepaths with a stolen base. Trinity Alderman delivered a key hit, driving in a team-high two RBIs, while Kaylor Hodge, Chariss Barnard, Ella Barnett, and Cora Thompson each added an RBI to round out the balanced attack.

 

North Central was aggressive on the bases, recording stolen bases from Endicott, Laws, Hodge, and Thompson to keep pressure on the defense throughout the game.

 

In the circle, Skylar Sunderland got the start and earned the win, tossing 4.1 innings while allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out one. Myla Laws was effective in relief, shutting the door over the final 2.2 innings by allowing no runs and striking out one to secure the victory.

 

Despite a few defensive miscues, the Pirates controlled the game behind timely hitting and solid pitching to complete the win.
