Softball Splits Home Doubleheader With Jefferson College

NCMC softball split a home doubleheader with Jefferson College on Saturday to move their Region 16 record to 5-1 and their overall record to 9-17.  Next up is a road series on Monday and Tuesday with Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Jefferson College 3, NCMC 0

The Pirates were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the opener, falling 3-0 to Jefferson College despite a competitive effort in the circle and on the bases.

The Pirates scattered five hits on the day, led by Kaylor Hodge, who went 2-for-3 to pace the offense. Ireland Bloss added a double and reached base twice, while Skylar Sunderland also recorded a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-3 from the plate.

NCMC showed patience offensively, drawing six walks, including two by Alex Endicott, but could not break against Jefferson's pitching staff.

In the circle, Sunderland turned in a solid start, working 5.0 innings and allowing just three runs—two earned—on four hits. She kept the game within reach throughout before Myla Laws came on in relief and delivered two shutout innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit.

Jefferson College used timely hitting to plate all three of its runs, highlighted by a two-hit performance from Macey Nix and a three-hit outing from Alexia Chevrier.

Emma Lisenbee led the way with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI, while Ireland Bloss added two hits of her own, including a double, and drove in a run. Alex Endicott and Kaylor Hodge each recorded an RBI, helping the Pirates generate timely offense throughout the game.
