Baseball Splits A Pair Of High Scoring Games With Metropolitan CC

Pirates baseball went on the road Thursday and earned a split against Metropolitan CC in their doubleheader.  NCMC's overall record is now 19-20 with another pair of games coming against the Wolves on Saturday.  These will be played at Burleigh Grimes Field with a first pitch set for 1:00pm.

Game 1:

NCMC rallied for an 8-7 road victory over Metro in the opener, using timely hitting and late offense to secure the win. The Pirates were powered by a huge performance from Leonel Dominguez, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs.  His big blow was a 3-run round tripper to tie the game in the top of the 7th inning.  Jose Bedoya added a home run of his own, finishing 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Eduardo Chourio contributed on both sides, collecting two hits and later shutting the door with a scoreless inning to earn his sixth save of the season. JP Gonzalez chipped in with a double and an RBI, and Javier Suarez scored twice to help spark the offense. On the mound, Max Wagers battled through seven innings to earn the win, striking out one while allowing seven runs, before turning it over to Chourio to close out the comeback victory.

Game 2:

Despite pounding out 13 hits, including three home runs, NCMC took a loss in the finale.  A pair of big innings by Metropolitan proved too much to overcome in a 12-8 setback. The Pirates were led offensively by JP Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, while Koby Wagers added a 2-for-4 performance of his own with a homer and three RBIs. Jose Bedoya delivered a strong game at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs, and Leonel Dominguez chipped in three hits. Ethan Shupe contributed a pair of hits and drove in two runs as NCMC scored in four different innings. On the mound, Luis Leon struck out three over 2.1 innings, but the Pirates' pitching staff was hurt by two MCC home runs and defensive miscues, as four errors led to extended innings and helped fuel the 12 runs allowed.
