The Lady Pirates put together a dominant performance Monday night's Domestic Violence Awareness game, defeating Graceland University JV 102-49 at the Ketcham Community Center. The win was the first for the new head coach Joe McKinstry and his assistant Arielle Houston. NCMC shot an impressive 56% from the field and saw five players score in double figures in a well-rounded effort. The win improved the team's record to 1-1 with their next action coming on Friday when they host John Wood CC in the annual NCMC Classic. Tipoff is set for 7:30pm.
Honor Mannings led the charge with a game-high 21 points, shooting 9-of-13 from the floor while adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Fellow starter Liz Oliver was equally efficient, contributing 18 points and six rebounds while knocking down 5-of-6 free throws.
Off the bench, Addilyn Henke provided a major spark, scoring 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and pulling down a team-best eight rebounds. Peyton Johnson continued her strong early-season play with 13 points and six boards, while Sidney Aeschliman added eight points and three rebounds, including a pair of three-pointers.
The Lady Pirates also saw steady contributions from Tailer Morrison, who tallied seven points and seven rebounds, and Lexi Burns, who added four points and five rebounds. Freshmen A'nyah Ivory, Laney Uchtman, and Delaney Richards each chipped in five points, rounding out the balanced scoring effort.
NCMC controlled the glass with a 54-38 rebounding advantage and assisted on 10 of their 40 made field goals. Defensively, the swarming team defense limited Graceland to just 25% shooting from the field and forced 17 turnovers.
