NCMC women's basketball handily won both of their games this past weekend in the annual NCMC Classic. On Friday, they defeated John Wood CC 83-39 before taking down Marshalltown CC 74-46 on Saturday. They now hold a record of 3-1 overall. Next up for the 10th ranked Lady Pirates is a home matchup Monday against Grand View University JV.
NCMC 83, John Wood CC 39
NCMC used a balanced scoring effort and dominant rebounding to power past John Wood Community College. The Lady Pirates controlled the game from start to finish, shooting 45% from the field while holding the Trail Blazers to under 30%. Ten different NCMC players found the scoring column, showcasing the team's depth and unselfish play.
Freshman Liz Oliver led the Pirates with 14 points and five rebounds, attacking the basket efficiently and converting 4-of-5 free throws. Honor Mannings provided an offensive spark as well, adding 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting while picking up two steals.
Off the bench, Addilyn Henke stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and two assists in an all-around performance that energized NCMC. Tailer Morrison controlled the paint, finishing with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
NCMC's second unit made a major impact, outscoring John Wood's reserves 46-8. Peyton Johnson hit three triples to finish with nine points, while Laney Uchtman and Lexi Burns each contributed eight. A'nyah Ivory and Delaney Richards added quality minutes and combined for eight points and six rebounds.
As a team, NCMC dominated the boards with a 52–28 advantage and forced 33 John Wood turnovers, turning defense into transition opportunities throughout the contest.
NCMC 74, Marshalltown CC 46
A strong team performance from top to bottom propelled the Lady Pirates to their win over Marshalltown Community College. NCMC controlled the boards and used a balanced scoring attack, with five players reaching double figures in the victory. NCMC dominated the glass 68-38, turning second-chance opportunities into points throughout the contest.
Freshman Peyton Johnson led the charge with 17 points, connecting on five three-pointers to pace the Lady Pirate offense. Addilyn Henke followed closely with 14 points and seven rebounds, also knocking down four shots from beyond the arc.
Honor Mannings added 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting, including three triples, while Liz Oliver continued her strong interior play with a double-double — 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Delaney Richards gave NCMC a spark off the bench with seven points and five rebounds, and Tailer Morrison contributed 11 rebounds.
Defensively, NCMC held Marshalltown to just 28.8% shooting from the field and 0-for-11 from three-point range. The Lady Pirates' relentless rebounding and perimeter defense helped them pull away early and maintain control throughout the game.
Lexi Burns chipped in five points off the bench, and Sidney Aeschliman grabbed seven rebounds while providing energy on both ends of the court.
